For our first assignment creating a webquest I was a little nervous about doing it. I had never used or created a webquest before. In fact I didn't even know what a webquest was. After researching for several hours I think I finaly know what a webquest is. It doesn't look like they would be to hard to do. It just looks like it could be time consuming. One of the sites that was helpful to me was the site http://webquest.sdsu.edu/materials.htm. After doing the webquest I realized how much I miss being in the classroom. Don't get wrong I love being the Library/ Media Specialist, but the classroom brings something different. I had a lot of fun doing the webquest, it was refreshing to do something new. I just hope I did it right. I'm just curious how many people in our class have done webquest before? Here is my Webquest: Great Depression Webquest. I like the way webquest are broken down into overview, introduction, questions, process, resources, evaluation, and conclusions. When making one, it makes sure that you cover every area and you are keeping on task.
This is my second time using blogs I have found them to be quite useful. This fall I would like to try and use one for a book club. Many of my students in my book club have said they couldn't meet after school and none of them have the same studyhall during the day to meet. So I thought maybe I could try and use a blog or even a wiki. I want a place where students can comment on a book and have open discussions. I feel that a blog is a perfect place because a student can write out their comments about a book and other students can comment about their thoughts and then the student can coment back. Does anybody have any other suggestions or ideas on this?

When planning a unit, I often check out Webquests online (just putting the topic & "Webquest" in the search). If I can use or adapt someone else's, it saves a lot of work! The links are often helpful, too. For instance, I recently discovered some cool sites on the Salem Witch trials (The kids are going to love them!).
Great idea to use blogs for a book club...but a wiki could also work. Oh, and I am glad that you found the webquest useful in your position in the library. Do you think you would feel comfortable turnkeying the information to teachers?
Lori,
I don't think I would have a problem at all giving this information to the teachers. We have a great staff at our school and work well together.
I like being in the classroom too. I thought the novelty would wear off, but it hasn't so far. Everytime I walk in a classroom, I think to myself, "Wow, I can't believe they are paying me for this!" I teach computer type courses. I have always walked people through computer programs (for over 14 years now). Teaching a class similar, except there are more people to instruct at the same time. Anyway, I fell into teaching by accident. I wanted a job that I could do while the kids were at school. I was ready to take MBA courses. I landed an instructor job and after two weeks, I knew I wanted to make a career out of it. I searched for an alternative to the MBA program and here I am at Kent. I really like the program so far. I like how the program blends technology and education. It is perfect for a IT instructor. Plus, I can use the degree in other ways too. I am really happy.
